CARTERTON

BOWLING CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following additional games in the Carterton Bowling Club’s championships have been played: —Champion pairs: Curtis and Tucker (s) beat Thompson and Harrington (s), 26/12. Champion singles: Sorensen beat Whyte, 22/18; Larsen beat Martin, 20/11; DeLacey Buttons: Colson and McCarty (s) beat Irwin and Harrington (s), 19/16. E.P.S. LAW AND ORDER SECTION. Constable F. J. Williams presided over a meeting of members of the law and order section of the E.P.S., held in the Courthouse, Carterton, last evening. There were also present: Messrs A. T. Murray, C. A. Chennells, C. Abbott, H. E. Ward, F. J. Rawlings, T. Merson, T. McQuilken, W. A. Kempton, J. F. Grant, G. G. Magyer, D. H. Jensen, R. D. Stark, G. F. Sunkel, C. J. DeLacey and R. Adams. On the motion of Mr Murray, seconded by Mr C. Abbott, Mr C. J. DeLacey was appointed secretary pro tern. A committee consisting of Messrs A. F. Williams, D. H. Jensen, C. A. Chennells, A. T. Murray and the secretary, ex oilicio, was elected. Mr A. T. Murray was appointed drill instructor. The chairman read instructions to be followed by members, after which questions were asked and answered. The question of obtaining an emergency car was left to Constable Williams to arrange. It was resolved that on Tuesday next, March 10, members be given drill by the instructor. ■ ■.: j. i Personal Items. Mr Hessey, Agricultural Inspector of the Wellington Education Board, visited Carterton yesterday on official business. Mrs C. C. Deller has received a cable from her husband, Sgt. Pilot Deller, who had been stationed in Singapore for several months, stating that he is now safe and well in Java. Leading Aircraftman Gibb Johnston and Mrs Johnston are spending a holiday in Carterton, and are the guests of Mr and Mrs A. T. Murray. Mrs Johnson, of Pembroke Street, Carterton, has received word from her son, Pte. Johnson, stating he was fit and well. Herd Testing. The three class leaders in the Friesian herd testing merit list for October retained their positions in November. Among these were the senior two-year-old, Koromiko Daybreak, owned by Mr M. J. Parker, Dalefield, with 64.111 b fat. REGENT THEATRE TONIGHT’S PROGRAMME. A great picture, “Captain’s Courageous,” starring Spencer Tracy, Freddie Bartholomew and Mickey Rooney will be shown tonight. (Approved for Universal Exhibition).
