TIRAUMEA
WOMEN’S DIVISION ENJOYABLE SOCIAL GATHERING. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Tiraumea Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union entertained the Home Guardsmen and children of the district at the local hall on Friday. It is the custom of the Division at Tiraumea to hold a picnic annually for the children. This year, owing to benzine restrictions it was decided that it should take place on Home Guard parade day. The tables were well laden with home-made lunch and afternoon tea. About 120 adults and over 50 children were catered for. After lunch the ladies conducted treasure hunts and races for the children, a most enjoyable time being spent. Mr J. McDonald, of Alfredton, briefly thanked the ladies for their hospitality. Home Guard Parades. During the past week two Home Guard parades were held, there being a good attendance. Sergeant Major Stanton and Sergeant Major Burling were present on both days and instructed the Guardsmen in bayonet drill, bomb throwing and field craft. Personal Items. Messrs Bryce Wright and Keith Raleigh left at the weekend for Waiouru Camp. Mrs Keith Raleigh, who had been the guest of Mr and Mrs Scott Raleigh for a week, has left to visit friends in the Alfredton district before returning to her home in Wellington. Trooper F. Herbert is on leave from Waiouru and is the guest of Mr and Mrs Harman Senr., Haunui. Mr J. Reed is making satisfactory progress towards recovery from his illness, but is still an inmate of the Pahiatua Hospital.
