GREVTOWN COUNCIL MEETING LAST NIGHT, ! DISPOSAL OF GAS PLANT. ! (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Grey- ■ town Borough Council was held last evening. There were- present: The Mayor (Mr A. W. Horton), Councillors W. A. Tate, I. Blissett, A. Stuart, E. Balfour, G. F. Eagar, H. J. Farley; F. Wood. H. C. Trotman. and H. McKenna. The Council decided that the firebell be used in future for fire calls, and thbsiren as an emergency alarm. The Greytown Picture Co. wrote requesting that heating appliances be installed in the Town Hall. The Mayor stated that he had advised the Picture Co. that the council was prepared to instal heating points only. The appointment of a dog tax collector was held over for the Works Committee to deal with. The Gas Manager reported that most of the plant had been disposed of aS' well as nearly all the saleable cook-

ers. The latter had been taken by the Masterton Gas Department. The disposal of the balance of the plant is expected to be completed in the next four weeks. The 10 per cent penalty on rates is to take effect on March 20. Messrs Gawith, Biss and Wilson, solicitors, wrote on behalf of Mr F. C. Bunny in respect of rent charged for' the waler race on their client’s property outside the borough. The letter was received and the Town Clerk was instructed to recover the arrears due. 'The restricted lighting committee reported that Mr Russell Elliott had been appointed chief lighting warden. Tile Town Clerk pointed out that the regulations stipulated that the reading room was to be closed during the period that the librarian was not on duty in the evening. The Sanitary Inspector reported that the water works, rubbish tip and septic tank had been found satisfactory. Mr F. Eliott, building and sanitary 1 inspector, was appointed to act for thoborough of Greytown,
