CARTERTON
BOWLING PAIRS TOURNAMENT (“Times-Age” Special.) Nine rinks took part in a progressive rinks tournament held by the Carterton Bowling Club on Saturday afternoon. The winning skip was Gordon Hughan, who went through the tourney without a loss. The runner-up was W. Martin (4 wins and a draw). In the leads four won five games, but in points Smith and Underhill tied with 63 each. G. Steven (57 points) was third and Pankhurst (52) fourth. Afternoon tea was presided over by Mesdames Peters and Billington to whom a hearty vote of- thanks was accorded. Games played in the Ladies’ Bowling Club’s competitions have resulted as follow:—Singles: Mrs Thompson beat Mrs Robinson, 19/10; Miss Armstrong beat Mrs Bredin, 24/11; Mrs Thompson beat Miss Lamb, 24/16. Pairs: Mrs Colson and Mrs Thompson (s) beat Mrs Adams and Miss Armstrong (s), 25/21; Mrs Swan and Miss Lamb (s) beat Mrs Callender and Miss Hamer (s), 25/19. Fish Hook in Arm. While eel fishing at Dalefield yesterday afternoon a youth named Lipinski got a fish hook embedded in an arm. He was attended by Dr. Wells, who removed the hook. Personal. Last Friday, Mrs Hurndell, of Park Road, received an undated cable from Singapore stating that her son, Ordinary Seaman Laurie Hurndell, was safe and well. REGENT THEATRE TONIGHT’S PROGRAMME. The comedy success, “Arise My Love,” with Ray Milland, Claudette Colbert and Walter Abel in the leading roles, will be screened tonight. (Recommended by the Censor for Adults).
