MARTINBOROUGH

COUNTY COUNCIL BUSINESS AT YESTERDAY’S MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Featherston County Council yesterday there were present: Councillors A. B. Martin, R. Smith, D. Cameron, J. C. Bidwill, Q. Donald. J. A. McLeod, L. D. Thompson, G. Gillies and R. W. Matthews. The Internal Affairs Department wrote stating that it was unable to secure dog collars. The State Forest Department wrote drawing attention to the danger of grass fires from the use of gas producers, and stating that special protectors were being made. A letter was received from the Wairarapa Power Board stating that certain poles in Tainui Road would be removed further back and painted.

The ranger reported that 7 head of cattle had been impounded and that 17 dogs had been registered. A complaint was received of the alleged excessive use of benzine by County employees. It was decided that the overseer enquire into the matter. It was agreed to pay half the cost of the repairs to the Featherston pound.
