GIFTS FOR SOLDIERS AN ENJOYABLE GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the residence of Mr and Mrs G. Leslie, Haswell Street, the Mayor (Mr W. Olsen) handed gifts to Mrs G. Leslie (mother) and Mrs H. Leslie to be forwarded to Lance-Corporal H. Leslie and Private G. Leslie. The Mayor referred to the sterling personal qualities of the Leslie boys, and the very high esteem in which they were held by the residents of Eketahuna. Mr and Mrs G. Leslie and Mrs H. Leslie suitably replied. Miss M. Anderson, on behalf of the Borough ladies’ patriotic committee, asked Mrs Leslie to convey to her sons, the committee’s best wishes, and sta ted that suitable knitted comforts were being forwarded to Lance-Cor-poral H. Leslie and Private G. Leslie. Musical items interspersed with community singing made the gathering a very pleasant one. A tasty savoury supper was provided by Mesdames G. and H. Leslie. Those present included members of the Leslie family, the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs W. Olsen). Miss M. Anderson and Mrs N. Williams (Borough Ladies’ Patriotic Committee), Mrs H. M. Curry (Patriotic Council), and B. Dinnan (Town Clerk).

Personal Items.

Miss Beresford, of the Hobson Street Private Hospital, is the guest of the Misses Anderson, Alfredton Road, .me will later visit Mrs Scott Raleigh, “High Range,” Tiraumea. Mrs R. Payne has returned from a visit to Gisborne. Mrs Liardet is the guest of Mrs M. Stone-Wigg, Tawataia.
