OFFER TO INDIA
REPRESENTATION ON WAR CABINET. ON AN EQUAL FOOTING WITH DOMINIONS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, February 12. The Secretary for India, Mr Amery, said in the House of Commons that the Government is anxious that India should be afforded the same opportunities as the Dominions of being represented on the War Cabinet and on the Pacific War Council, for the purposes of formulation and direction of policy for the prosecution of the war. Britain accordingly had invited India to arrange for such representation if she desired. Questioned regarding the Indian representatives on the Defence Committee, Mr Amery said that the organisation of the Defence Committee was flexible. Ministers and advisers were being invited to attend as was necessary. Accordingly the Secretary for India, accompanied by the military, secretary at the India Office, who was a major-general in the Indian Army, attended the committee whenever matters affecting Indians were under discussion. The Indian Army was represented on the General Staff at the War Office and on the military side of the War Cabinet secretariat. The Indian representatives would have equal status with the Dominion representatives.
