LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL
ADJOURNED TILL MARCH 19. OVERSEAS REPRESENTATIVE BILL PASSED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Overseas Representatives Bill was passed by the Legislative Council before it adjourned today, until March 19. Replying to the Leader of the Legislative Council, Mr D. Wilson, said the High Commissioner was covered by the measure because it would be an invidious distinction if High Commissioners appointed to other Dominions as a temporary measure were deprived of their seats in the legislature while others were not. It could happen that the High Commissioner to London could hold office and his seat for most of the term of a parliament but it was not the intention of the Government to disfranchise any electorate in that way. Before the adjournment was taken Mr Wilson asked memebrs to do their utmost to help the Dominion's war effort during the present uncheering war situation.
