British Line Defined COUNTER-ATTACKS ON LEFT FLANK SUCCESSFUL ENEMY PLANES AND TANKS ACTIVE LONDON. February 12. A communique from Singapore states: The British line extends from the naval base in the north, through the centre of the island to Tanglin in the south. Tanglin is a western suburb of Singapore city. Counter-attacks by our troops have been successful on the left flank of the Japanese lines. At 7.30 o’clock this morning local time Japanese military bombers with fighter escort fought an unsuccessful engagement with our planes over Malaya. Their air activity was resumed early this morning, when attacks were made by dive-bombing and machine-gunning planes, as well as by medium tanks. The official Japanese Domei agency states that fierce resistance is being made by the British near the Singapore Racecourse and in the neighbourhood of the reservoir.
