ENEMY ATTACK DEFEATED

Success on the Salween Front SOME AIR ACTIVITY REPORTED LONDON, February 12. Tonight’s Rangoon communique gives the latest news of the fighting on the Salween front. After heavy fighting, an enemy attack on our'positions in the Paan area was successfully defeated and the situation is -now much quieter. The enemy appears to have temporarily abandoned, operations in this area. Our casualties were not heavy. During the fighting at Martaban a company of British infantry charged at the point of the bayonet and the enemy fled, throwing away their weapons and suffering considerable casualties. Enemy planes attacked our troops in the Martaban sector. Our bombers and fighters replied by attacking enemy troops at Moulmein and on the Salween River. Last night Rangoon was again free of enemy air raids. A message from New Delhi states that General Chiang Kai-shek has had a full and frank talk with the various service heads. A perfect understanding has been reached for collaboration in the defence of Burma.
