Donation Acknowledged.

The .Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, acknowledges the donation by Mr F. W. Groves, Opaki Road, of a gramophone and records for the use of the armed forces.

Patriotic Fund Donation. A further donation of £8 from Mr and Mrs Reg. Pinhey to the Provincial Patriotic Fund is acknowledged by the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan.

Books & Magazines Wanted. In conjunction with the Dominion Patriotic Council and by kind permission of the Masterton Postmaster, Mr M. M. Simpson, the Y.M.C.A. has placed at the Post Office corner a postal box where residents may leave suitable light reading matter, which is urgently needed for distribution to men serving with the forces.

Nursing Division Lecture. The first lecture in collection with the hygiene class of the Nursing Division of St. John Ambulance Brigade will be given tonight, at 7 o'clock, in the Methodist Sunday School room in Lincoln Road. Enrolments can still be made, and a certificate in hygiene is necessary for those women who wish to become V.A.'s. Books will be on sale, and each member should bring a notebook. Sister Brown, of the Masterton Hospital, will be the lecturer.

Plunket Appeal, The Plunket Society commenced its annual appeal in Mastertoil today. The committee and members of the society, with the assistance of many mothers, arc to call on every householder in the town to solicit donations to the society. The .committee is confident, in view of the society’s national work, that the response will be a generous one and requests householders to have contributions ready, so as to make the task of the collectors as easy as possible.
