NO RESPITE
GIVEN TO, THE ENEMY IN LIBYA CEASELESS BRITISH AIR ATTACKS. IN FORWARD & BACK AREAS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.18 p.m.) RUGBY, February 8. Air operations against the enemy in Libya are described in an R.A.R. communique from the Middle East headquarters which states: “Fighter and bomber aircraft maintained their offensive activities in Cyrenaica during Saturday and sweeps were carried out over our land forces and enemy forward units and enemy columns were again attacked. In raids on mobile columns on roads between Clonta and Martuba, and in the El Tmimi area, a number of motor transport vehicles were extensively damaged. On the night of February 6, enemy motorised units in the Jedabaya region were bombed, but a heavy cloud obscured the results of the raid. “In the course of enemy raids on Malta on February 7, a Messerschmitt 109 was shot down by anti-aircraft gunfire. “From these operations four of our aircraft are missing.” NAZI SUPPLY SHIP BOMBED OFF NORWEGIAN COAST. TWO BRITISH PLANES MISSING. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.18 p.m.) RUGBY, February 8. An Air Ministry communique states: “In the course of searches for enemy shipping by aircraft of the Coastal Command today a supply vessel was found and bombed oq the Norwegian coast. Two of our aircraft arc missing from the day’s operations.”
