BACK TO GAZALA
FIFTY MILES WEST OF TOBRUK FIGHTING IN THE LIBYAN CAMPAIGN. SIGNS OF STABILISATION. LONDON, February 8. Today’s Cairo communique speaks of fighting in the Gazala region, 50 miles west of Tobruk. A 8.8. C. observer says Rommel’s troops have not yet come up against our main forces. It is indicated that the position is approaching stabilisation. Our ail' forces have been active, doing extensive damage to enemy transport. In operations covered by the latest communique we lost four aircraft.
