Law and Order Section of E.P.S.

The duties of special police in an emergency was the subject of a talk given at this week’s parade of the Law and Order Section of the Masterton E.P.S, The speakers were DetectiveSergeant W. Kane and Mi- H. H. Daniell. There was an attendance of 30 members. Fatal Fall. When he fell from a ladder at Metiers, Ltd., Petone, yesterday, Mr David Duncan, of Petone, received a fractured skull and concussion. He was taken to the Wellington hospital, but died a few hours later. He was 47 years old. E.P.S. Organisation.

Recent cnruimeiiis in the E.P.S. were considered last night by the chairman of the E.P.S. Committees in Masterton, and selections made in various divisions. Mr W. Kemp was appointed chief warden in respect to lighting restrictions. District and other wardens are to be selected by Mr Kemp.

Two By-Elections Today. Two by-elections# are to be held today to fill vacancies in the House of Representatives—one for the Hauraki electorate and the other for Temuka. The Hauraki seat became vacant by Lhe death on active service of Lieuten-ant-Colonel J. M. Allen, and the vacancy in Temuka was caused by the death of Mr T. D. Burnett. Appeal For Tins.

The Masterion Women's Patriotic Committee will shortly be packing parcels for men overseas. About 600 barley sugar tins or other half pound tins, and 600 round tobacco tins are required and the committee would be glad if people would leave these at the Rest' Room, Dixon Street, or at the Borough Council office. One district farmei- has collected 400 tins and the committee would be pleased if these could be left at the depot.'
