Strong Southerly.
A strong southerly wind last night did much damage in gardens, where gladioli and dahlias suffered severely. The wind was also responsible for the Masterton Post Office clock stopping at 12.25 a.m. P. & T. Dance. Another successful dance was held by the P. and T. Social Club in the Masonic Hall last night. There was a large attendance including many Territorials. Barnes's Orchestra played the dance music and Mr W. L. Butler proved a capable M.C. Miss Watt was . responsible for the supper arrangements. Tin Hare Racing. The tin hare racing plant set up • at Rugby Park by the Wairarapa Coursing Club has had a preliminary test and appears to be working smoothly. Final trials will be held on Saturday afternoon and the club’s programme will be resumed the following Saturday, when an opening meeting will be held. National Reservists. The question has been raised whether members of the National Military Reserve who, under the new arrange- 1 ment are to be transferred to the < Home Guard, will be able to resume < tehir civil occupations. When this was ] put to the Minister of Defence, Mr , Jones, yesterday, he said that the c members of the National Military Re- c serve in this category would be trans- i ferred to the Home Guard units in t their own districts. They would be j subject to the usual conditions per- t taining to the Home Guard and would e be able to return to their normal civilian work. c
