CARTERTON
BOY SCOUTS CITIZENS’ COMMITTEE MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs M. E. Mellish (president) presided over a meeting of the Boy Scouts’ Citizens’ Committee last evening. There were also present Mrs A. Paterson, Messrs H. T. Ray, A. Paterson, C. J. De Lacey, Scoutmaster Fairbrother and the secretary, Miss Eagle. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames A. Thompson and Hod--1 der and Messrs Fryer and A. Adams. The Scoutmaster reported that the recent entertainment had resulted in a profit of £7 12s. The Masterton Swimming Club had very generously loaned their springboard to the Carterton Scouts for the duration of the war. He stated that the services of the instructor, Mr Rex Tatton, would only be available for three more Mondays, after which he would enter the air force. His brother, however, had consented to carry on the work of instructor. It was resolved that a letter of thanks be forwarded to Mr Rex Tatton in appreciation of his work as instructor. It was reported that “Scout Week” would be held on February 20, 21 and 22 and it was decided that Mr Fairbrother interview the District Commissioner, Mr R. N. Barton, in regard to holding a Scouts’ service. It was also decided to approach the ministers of religion requesting them to conduct a service on one of three days. The next meeting of the committee will be held on Thursday, March 5. Several matters in connection with the Scout Den were discussed. Heavy Rain. Just before dusk last evening heavy rain set in from the south, and the conditions today are comparable with mid-winter. Personal Items. Mrs Robertson, of Wanganui, is the guest of Mrs W. Hayden, Holloway Street, Carterton. Mr and Mrs C. Teal, of Wellington, who have been staying with Mr Teal’s parents, returned to Wellington yesterday. The friends of Mr A. R. Daysh, who is an inmate of the Croydon Hospital, will be pleased to learn that he is improving in health. REGENT THEATRE TONIGHT’S PROGRAMME. A double feature programme will be screened tonight—“ Mexican Spitfire Out West,” featuring Lupe Velez, and “Melody for Three,” with Jean Hersholt and Fay Wray in the leading roles. (Both approved for Universal Exhibition).
