NATIONAL DEBT

SIXTY BILLIONS EXCEEDED IN U.S.A. ALMOST STATUTORY LIMIT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.10 p.m.) WASHINGTON, February 5. A Treasury report shows that the national debt of U.S.A, on January 31 exceeded 60,000,000,000 dollars. This almost reaches the statutory limit of 65,000,000,000 dollars. Therefore the Treasury must very soon ask for an enlargement of the debt limit from Congress. Some informed circles predict that the Government will request at least an extension to 100,000,000,000 dollars, while others express the opinion that the request will be to drop limitations altogether in view of the Unpredictable increase in war costs.
