ALLEGED SPY RING

PROCEEDINGS IN AMERICA. MILITARY CENTRES VISITED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, February 4. In the course of the proceedings against the alleged Nazi spy ring today Lucy Boehmler testified that ships in whose movements her alleged spy chief had been interested had been sunk after he discovered the departure schedules. Miss Boehmler, who is a blonde, aged 18, was engaged as secretary by Kurt Frederick Ludwig, described by the prosecutor as a paid agent of the German Government. In the spring of 1941, after Ludwig had shown a particular interest in shipping in New York harbour, with Boehmler he went south, visiting various military establishments, camps, arsenals, forts, air bases and airports. Posing as a tourist, Ludwig photographed military installations at all the points he visited, dictating statistics concerning the location, equipment and morale of the forces he encountered. At one naval air station admission was refused at first, but when Ludwig showed a letter from one of the defendants the military police admitted them, in spite of Ludwig’s Germanic I accent.
