ART CLUB
4— PAST YEAR’S ACTIVITIES ANNUAL MEETING. SOCIAL EVENING HELD. The annual meeting of the Masterton Art Club was held in the Savage Club’s rooms, Perry Street, last evening, there being a good attendance of both active and honorary members and friends. In reviewing the activities for the 1941 season, the president, Mr A. Clemas, said the club had good reason to be pleased with the results. There had been eight criticism evenings, seven lecture evenings, and two public exhibitions. The criticisms had proved most helpful and encouraging. Unfortunately the lecture evenings had not been so well attended as anticipated. The various speakers had chosen interesting subjects and their addresses had been most informative and helpful. Two enjoyable social evenings had been arranged by Mrs P. G. Ramsay and Mrs L. T. Daniell at their respective homes, and both were well attended and much appreciated. The financial position was sound. The proceeds from the exhibitions had been handed over to the Patriotic Fund. The prospects for the future were encouraging. Trying and troublesome times were ahead but with the enthusiasm that .existed in their ranks they could look forward to the season just commencing With every confidence. With the talent in their midst and the earnest desire of all to go steadily forward, the president said he felt sure that the club was quite capable of writing a bright new chapter in the history of art in the Wairarapa. The thanks of the club were due to Mr S. B. Maclennan for criticisms and kindly advice and help, to the lecturers, Mrs Brockett, Mrs Miller Hope, Miss Iva Gordon, Miss Davis. Messrs Smith, Maclennan and Dr. Prior ,to Miss Ruth Lett, secretary and treasurer, and to members of the committee. The election of officers for 1942 resulted as follows:—President, Mr A. Clemas; vice-presidents, Mesdames F. Daniell and C. T. Richardson; committee, Mesdames Brockett, J. T. Cunningham, A. Young, Ramsay, Eastwood and Mr H. T. Thompson; secretary, Miss Ruth Lett; treasurer, Miss C. Cockerill; critic, Mr S. B. Maclennan. After the annual meeting the club resolved itself into a social gatheiing. Much appreciated musical items under the direction of Mrs Miller Hope and vocal items by Miss D. Jamieson greatly contributed to the pleasure of the evening. Supper was served by the ladies’ committee.
