E.P.S. STEADY FLOW OF ENROLMENTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) There has been a steady flow of enrolments in the Emergency Reserve Corps. In the borough, over one hundred and fifty forms have been handed in to the Town Clerk, Mr P. A. Cole. Mr E. T. Beaven, County Clerk, has received a similar number. The period of enrolment has been extended for 14 days. This extension of time will give settlers in the country a better chance to enrol, because since the petrol restrictions came into force they visit Carterton only on a Friday. BOY SCOUTS CARD TOURNAMENT. The weekly card tournament of the Boy Scouts’ Citizens’ Committee took place in the bandroom last evening There was a large attendance, and the prizes were won as follows: —Ladies: Mesdames Playle and Lenihan. Men: Messrs F. Jackson, junr., and T. Edwards. A Cold Snap. A cold southerly with rain is being experienced in the district today. National Savings. In connection with Carterton’s national savings effort, the flag is again flying at the mast-head. Carterton’s quota is £240 a week, and it has been exceeded this week by £3OO. Personal Items. Mr W. Wadham, who was recently discharged from the Masterton Public Hospital, is confined to his bed again, being under medical treatment. Mr Noel Jensen, Brooklyn Road, Carterton, who has joined the Navy, will leave tomorrow for Auckland. Bowling Club. At a meeting of the Management Committee of the Carterton Bowling Club last evening, over which Mr F. Barr presided, it was decided, owing to the petrol restrictions, not to take part in the match against the Manawatu Centre at Masterton on Saturday. ; New Books in Library.
