THIRTEEN HUNDRED ENEMY AIRCRAFT DESTROYED BY BRITISH SHIPS AND NAVAL PLANES. SOME BY MERCHANT VESSELS. LONDON, February 4. The First Lord of the Admiralty (Mr A. V. Alexander) stated that since the beginning of the war British ships and naval aircraft had destroyed 1300 German and Italian planes. Warships and planes of the Fleet Air Arm, said the First Lord, had accounted for most of these enemy aircraft, but merchant ships had destroyed 94 planes, probably destroyed 42 more, and damaged 96.
