■» SHEARING OPERATIONS STILL IN PROGRESS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Shearing is still in progress in the district. Many farmers who had not shorn sheep since the days of the depression have had to try their hand again at shearing, owing to the scarcity of labour. Personal Items. Mrs Bedding, who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs Marenzi, has left for Havelock South. Miss Elizabeth Simmers is spending a holiday in Wellington. Mr and Mrs J. H. Curry, Palmerston North, have been the guests of Mr and Mrs W. Curry. Miss N. Greathead, Women’s War Service Auxiliary, Wellington, spent the weekend with her father in Bridge Street. Obituary. The death occurred in Nelson recently of Mr Priest, father of Mr Magnus Priest, of Eketahuna. The late Mr Priest was a native of the Shetland Islands and was engaged in the herring curing industry. During the Great War he served in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. After the war he resided at Scapa Flow and was there when the German Fleet was scuttled. In 1923 he emigrated to New Zealand and settled in Pahiatua. Later he went to Nelson where he was engaged in the fishing industry. The late Mr Priest was an accomplished violinist and used to play at Shetland weddings. He is survived by his wife and a large family. Mrs Priest is a member of the circle of Shetland weavers and spinners in Nelson.
