ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS LOYAL HEART OF OAK LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge last evening was presided over by P.G. Sister K. Mitchell. A vote of condolence was passed to Bros. E. H. D., J. S. and K. King in connection with the death of Mrs M. J. King. Sick pay totalling £9 6s Bd, and other accounts amounting to £8 5s 6d were passed for payment. One member was declared off the sick funds of the Lodge. The following members were nominated for district office:—District Grand Master, Bro. W. R. Treadwell; District Deputy G.M., Bro. G. S. Bruce, Carterton, Bro. R. Farrow, Eketahuna, W. P. Holt, Wellington; management committee, Bros. C. G. Bird, G. S. Bruce, W. J. Clark, W. J. Courtenay, R. C. Baikie (Masterton), R. Farrow, G. Forbes, G. D. Harris, W. P .Holt, A. E. Hewer, S. Eades, N. J. Sherwood, L. Withy, and Sister M. Champion; examining and relieving officer, Bros. Courtenay and J. L. Stewart; district auditor and book examiner, Bro. J. Shewan; assistant district auditor, Bro. J. W. Russell. BOWLING CLUB CHAMPION RINK GAMES. At a meeting of the Management Committee of the Carterton Bowling Club held last evening it was resolved to recommend the match committee to finalise the champion rink games, and that those with two “lives” play on a 2-life system until the champion is found. This will operate from Saturday next, and the teams will be published. The game Harrington v. Harp, which was not played last Saturday, will be decided next Saturday. .On February 14 a progressive pairs tourney will be played, commencing at. 1 o’clock, the proceeds from which will go toward relining the club’s billiard table. Personal Items. Mrs Stubbs returned to Carterton yesterday after a holiday spent at Auckland and Whangarei. The Rev. W. J. Couling and family, who have been on a holiday, have returned to Carterton. Vital Statistics. There were 4 births, 1 marriage and 3 deaths registered in Carterton during January, the figures for the corresponding month last year being 5, 1 and 4, respectively. Penalty on Rates. The Wairarapa South County Council gives notice that an additional charge of 10 per cent will be added to all rates unpaid on Monday, February 16, 1942. Carrington Rainfall. Mr J. A. Roberts, Carrington, reports that 5.07 inches of rain fell in January, as compared with 3.11 inches in the corresponding month last year. There were fourteen wet days and 'the heaviest fall was on January 2, viz., 1.59 inches. A Wrong Impression. A wrong impression appears to exist in connection with the dances that are to be held in the King’s Theatre for soldiers. Women dancers from 16 to 18 years of age will be admitted with a suitable escort, but this does not mean that only patrons from 16 to 18 years will be admitted. REGENT THEATRE TONIGHT’S PROGRAMME. Tonight’s programme will provide another comedy that is better than “Buck Privates,” when those outstanding comedians, Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, will be seen in “In the Navy.” (Approved for Universal Exhibition).
