CARTERTON
COUNTY COUNCIL A BRIDGE UNSAFE. (“Times-Ace” Special.) The Wairarapa South. County Council meeting was continued after the “Times-Age” went to press yesterday. It was decided that the February and March meetings be held on the 19th of the month. It was reported that the notices that had been posted on the Matarawa bridge as a warning against excessive loads being carried over it had disappeared. It was decided to erect new signs and that the weight be restricted to five tons. The bridge is unsafe for heavy traffic. Cr M. McGregor brought up the question of cleaning a creek at Longbush. It was resolved that the overseer arrange for the work to be carried out by county workmen, the cost to be charged to the settlers concerned. The overseer reported that 12 bags of cocksfoot grass seed had been threshed and that about another 20 or more bags were yet to be threshed. It' was resolved to have the seed machine dressed by Messrs Perry and Co., Masterton. Card Party and Dance. In the band room on Saturday night a card party and dance will be held for soldiers on leave. Cards will be played in the supper room and dancing will take place in the main hall. Bowling Club. In a match for the championship singles, W. Sorensen defeated J. Newbould, 21/IG. King’s Theatre Dance. A dance will be held in the King’s Theatre, Carterton, tomorrow night. The music will be played by Mrs Ashton’s Orchestra and a most enjoyable time is assured to patrons. Prizes for novelty dances will be awarded. Y.M.C.A. Activities. A meeting of the Y.M.C.A. representatives and those of various bodies in the Carterton district tonight will definitely decide which hall in the borough will be taken for Y.M.C.A. activities. RECENT THEATRE TONIGHT'S PROGRAMME. Tonight there will be shown at the Regent Theatre the spectacular drama “Wyoming,” featuring Wallace Beery, and Ann Rutherford. (Recommended by the Censor for Adults.) Also “Flowing Gold.” with John Garfield and Francis Farmer in the leading roles will also be shown. (Recommended by Censor for Adults.)
