LOCAL SPORTSMAN GOOD DAY AT RACES. (“Times-Age” Special.) ' Lower Valley sportsmen were in their element at the Trentham races on Saturday when a fair amount of cash was brought back as the result ot the success of horses owned by residents of this district. They were fortunate, however, in one instance that their hope, though it ran into a nondividend position in one of the division races, was, however, bracketed with the winner of the other division. The appropriately named Patu Po, which is owned by a member of one of the pioneer families of the district, is by Nightly. Home Guard. The local Home Guard assembled on Sunday and were put through various exercises. Personal Items. Mr E. Taurau is visiting Dannevirke. Messrs J. Sutton and G. Matthews are visitors to Masterton. Miss H. Matthews is spending a holiday in Wellington. Mr D. Te Whaiti has returned from a visit to Waipukurau. Mr and Mrs R. Hawkins have taken up their residence at Palliser Bay. Mr and Mrs Trevor Hume have returned from a visit to Wellington. Dr. and Mrs Bakewell, Wellington, are the guests of Miss M. McDougall. Mr and Mrs Riwai have returned from Wellington. Mrs P. Macdonald is visiting her son at Lovin. Mr L. .Goodwin, Pear Gully, has returned from Wellington. Among those reported missing in Libya is Gunnel’ Miro Cowper, of Dannevirke, who is well known in this district. Mr T. Midwood has returned from a trip to Wellington.
