EMERGENCY PRECAUTIONS A GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY. APPROVED BY CABINET. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. ! The War Cabinet has approved of a 1 Government contribution of £2 for £1 ; on all expenditure in connection with 1 emergency precautions services as from 1 January i, 1942. This was announced last evening by the Minister of National 1 Service, Mr Semple, who said the sub- ■ sidy would apply tp all items of expen- ’ diture such as administration and trans- ’ port services, but that it would not be - necessary to interfere with the arrangements made in connection with air raid shelters. The Minister said that full information in connection with the subsidy was being circulated forthwith. Mr Semple also announced that the War Cabinet had approved of E.P.S. authorities making the necessary arrangements in their respective districts whereby vehicles, which had been reserved for emergency precautions services could be provided with a battery service to render them mobile at all times to meet any emergency that may arise. The Government subsidy of £2 for £1 would be payable in respect of this battery service, but an amount of 30s per vehicle per annum would be the maximum on which subsidy could be claimed.
