JAPANESE BATTLESHIP

Probably Sunk by Dutch Forces IN MACASSAR STRAIT ACTION OCCUPATION OF SOUTH-EASTERN CELEBES PRESUMED LONDON, January 27. A large Japanese warship, probably a battleship, is now believed to have been among the enemy ships sunk by Dutch forces during the battle in the Macassar Strait. Only the top of the vessel is now showing above water. Japanese planes were over Netherlands East Indies territory today but no important damage resulted. No more information has been received from the southeastern part of Celebes since the Japanese landing started and it is presumed that the area has been occupied.
