CATHOLIC SERVICES CLUB

OPENING CEREMONY LAST EVENING. FACILITIES FOR SOLDIERS. The Catholic Services Club was formally opened last evening, when a concert was held and supper served. The large hall was crowded. The proceedings opened with the singing of the National Anthem. The president, Mr J. Jameson, extended a warm welcome to the guests, officers and men of the Forces, and hoped they would take full advantage of the facilities of the club.

Miss Denise Mahoney sang a vocal item, and was accorded an encore. The Rev. Father Moore, addressing the officers and men, said that although the facilities for entertaining them were good, much more was needed for the comfort of the soldiers, such as comfortable settees, chairs, floor rugs, etc. Donations would be very welcome.

Lieut.-Colonel G. G. Hancox expressed warm apreciation for what was being done for the Forces. He said he was quite sure they would all be delighted to take advantage of the very fine facilities of the club.

Mr T. Vaughan followed with a selection of songs, and was encored twice. Corporal Stri’ckett delighted the audience with some clever conjuring tricks. During the serving of supper, a “singsong” round the piano brought to a close a very successful and enjoyable evening.
