FEATHERSTON
CAMOUFLAGE NETS A PATRIOTIC EFFORT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The ground floor of the Wairarana Trading Company's premises, which has long been vacant, has been turned into a hive of industry, where members of the W.W.S.A. and Patriotic Committee, old and young, gather together to make nets. Some have become quite proficient, flhree nets have been completed, with three more well on the way towards completion, When it is realised that these nets measure approximately 14 feet by 14 feet, -this is a praiseworthy effort. Unfortunately operations have had to cease during the past week owing to supplies of twine being exhausted. Fresh supplies, however, are now to hand, so that the busy fingers are again in action. Even the business girls have been catered for. as the premises are open on Saturday afternoons. Recreation Room. A meeting of residents of the district is called for Thursday night to discuss arrangements in connection with a Recreation Room for troops, when it is hoped many suggestions will be brought forward. All who are willing to assist are requested to attend. Persona! Items. Mrs Stanley Raper, who has been visiting Wellington and Palmerston North, has returned home.
Mrs T. Tulloch, accompanied by her son, Mr S. Tulloch, left by plane for Blenheim on Saturday. Mr Murray Davis, of Wanganui, who has been the guest of Dr. and Mrs G. S. Sharp, has returned home. Cpl. J. E. Willett was home from camp for the weekend. Mrs Cyril Orsman, of Waverley, is the guest of Mrs J. T. Roberts, Wakefield Street. Soldiers’ Dance. Another very successful dance for the soldiers was held in the Town Hall cn Saturday night when there was a large attendance. Mr Peter Habib, as M.C., had a strenuous time in controlling the dance floor which was taxed to the utmost. The music for dancing was supplied by Udy’s Orchestra, while extras were contributed by Miss Marjorie Tocker, Pte. J. Dunn and Miss Grace Fraser. During the evening lucky spot dances were won by Miss Doreen Lowell and Pte. S. Philips and Miss E. Harvie and Gunner Duff. The supper arrangements were again in charge of a band of willing patriotic workers, the supper tables being beautifully decorated. A Busy Time. The W.W.S.A. and patriotic workers had an exceptionally busy afternoon and evening yesterday, when afternoon tea, ten and supper was served to soldiers, and was thoroughly appreciated. Games and competitions were held, and for those wishing to read or write, every facility was available. COSY THEATRE WEDNESDAY’S PROGRAMME. In addition to the evening session, there will be a special matinee of “Untamed” on Wednesday. This is a stirring film, with Ray Milland and Patricia Morison in the leading roles.
