It is understood that new regulations will shortly be gazetted to allow the re-licensing of motor vehicles without the provision of new number plates. It is expected that comparatively little change in the system will be necessary, transfers being issued for motorists to place on their windscreens to indicate that they have paid the current year's fee. The current licenses will expire at the end of June and the re-licensing will be done in that month.

“Simply Treason.” “Industrial strife of the kind which has caused the hold-up in the supply of meat to the people of Auckland is simply treason at a time when the enemy may be contemplating an attack on our shores, and must be treated accordingly,” said the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, in a statement issued on Saturday afternoon. Earlier in the day Mr Fraser had announced that the Government had issued directions to the employees of the Auckland municipal abattoir at Westfield, who recently ceased work, to resume work forthwith. Interhouse Dance. The dance held in the Municipal Hall on Saturday night by the Wairarapa Interhouse Association was largely attended and proved a most successful gathering. Barnes’s Orchestra played the dance music, and the arangements made for the amplification of the music and of announcements were much appreciated. The M’s.C. were Messrs J. McChesney and M. Dallas. The winners of the Monte Carlo waltz competition were Miss J. Wenham and Corporal Hargraves, and Miss Gilmore and Second-Lieut. Coleman. An excellent supper was provided. Motor Cars at Races. In spite of the request made on Thursday by the Minister of Supply, Mr Sullivan, that car owners should not use petrol for mere pleasure, such as travelling to race meetings, there were more cars at Trentham racecourse on i Saturday, the second day of the Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting, than on the previous Saturday, the first day of the meeting. This increase was noted by traffic inspectors. On the club’s property and in public parking places about the course on Saturday, there were 437 cars, including 19 taxis. The previous Saturday there were 282 cars at the races, including 49 taxis. Of the cars counted on the second day, 19 were fitted with gas producers.
