FARMERS’ UNION
MEETING OF WAIRARAPA EXECUTIVE
ADDITIONAL MANPOWER COMMITTEES. TO DEAL WITH’INDUSTRIAL APPEALS. Prayers by the Rev. H. S. . Kings marked the opening of today s meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union. The president, Mr Hugh Morrison, occupied the chair. Official advice was received to the effect that it was intended to set up four additional manpower committees to deal with all industrial appeals. This course was taken with a view .to achieving some uniformity of policy, and also so as not to increase the work of existing manpower committees. Correspondence was read relative to representations made to the authorities regarding petrol allocations to the farming industry. It was explained that any anomalies would be considered as soon as possible. Following a suggestion made on behalf of the executive, the authorities ,- had agreed to put on signal training for air force candidates on three nights a week at 6.30 o’clock. The executive agreed to make representations pointing out that it was in the public interest that a blacksmith in Greytown should not proceed to Territorial camp. It was pointed out that it was imperative that farriers should be available to deal with horses, in view of the effects of petrol restrictions. In view of the Masterton Show having been abandoned, it was agreed not to hold the fleece competition this year.
