CARTERTON
CLUB FOR SOLDIERS OPENED LAST EVENING. ("Times-Age’’ Special.) At a meeting of parishioners of St. Mark's Church held this week it was decided to provide a club room in the schoolroom for the use of soldiers. The room was officially opened last evening. The Vicar, the Rev. W. F. Stent, wishes it to be known, that all soldiers in uniform are welcome to attend the club where rest and recreation will be provided for them. DAIRY PRODUCE CO-OPERATION SCHEME. A special meeting of the Carterton branch was held yesterday to go into the question of making arrangements to assist one another on dairy farms in the event of an emergency or invasion. Mr A. E. Reid presided over a fair attendance. It was decided to organise on similar lines to that being done in Greytown. Key men were appointed to find out the following information and report to a further meeting at 11 a.m. on January 30: What labour is required or available; what stand-by plants and engines are available. Key men were appointed as follows; Parkvale, Messrs E. R. Rose, E. T. Bliss, N. Peacock; Waihakeke, W. B. Campin; Dalefield. P. Hodder and W. Neilsen; Swamp Road. P. Bain; Belvedere, A. E. Reid and W. Wilson; Kokotau, G. W. Hart; Ahiaruhe, H. F. Orr. It was realised cows would have to be milked if only once a day and more than one herd may have to be milked in one shed. Card Party Tonight. A card party, to be followed by a dance, will be held in the Bandroom in Holloway Street tonight. The gathering is being conducted by the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. The proceeds will be allocated to the Solders’ Comfort Fund. Supper will be provided. Borough Council. The monthly meeting of the Carterton Borough Council will be held on Tuesday night. Table Tennis Room. The Salvation Army officers have secured a room in Mr Chas. Stevens’s baker’s shop and have provided facilities for playing table tennis. Two tables with the necessary playing material have been installed and the room is open for the use of soldiers. REGENT THEATRE TONIGHT'S PROGRAMME. Cecil B. De Mille's mighty adventure romance . film, "North-West Mounted Police,” will be screened tonight, with Gary Cooper and Madeleine Carroll in the leading roles. (Approved for universal exhibition.)
