Lieut.-Colonel Birch, M:G., Major A. L. Hibbs, D.C.M., lst Masterton today to attend a weed's Home Guard course for group directors and battalion commanders at Dannevh'ke.
Mr T. de Lacey, conductor of " the choir at St. Gerard’s Church, Wellington, has taken .up his residence in Eltham. He has been 'succeeded as conductor by Mr L. Harrington, formerly of the choir of St. Joseph’s, Wellington.
Margaret C. Gaskin, of Masterton, has passed in drawing from Common objects, etc., painting from still life, elementary modelling and design in colour, in connection with the Diploma of Fine Arts preliminary examination held in December last.
The Hon. H. ,T. Armstrong, Minister of Public Works and Housing, r left Wellington for Auckland by the Liftiited Express last night. He will be engaged on public works and housing business in Auckland and adjoining districts till Thursday, when he will proceed to Tauranga. Before returning to Wellington on February 3, Mr Armstrong will visit the Te Kuiti and the Mangapeehi coal mine.
A patient at the Auckland Infirmary. Mrs Jane Priestley, celebrated her 103rd birthday on Thursday. Retaining her faculties to an exceptional degree. Mrs Priestley still enjoys remarkably good health. She comes of long-lived stock, her father having died at the age of 103. Born at Epsom, England, Mrs Priestley married Mr John Bennett Priestley. About 65 years ago they came to New Zealand. They lived in Auckland before going to Papakura to farm. Later, Mrs Priestley lived af Wanganui for seven years. Her husband died at the age of 80 in 1915.
