The Greytown Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild and Church members held a social gathering on Wednesday evening to bid farewell to Mr Meston, who had been in charge of the parish for the last three months. Mrs H. J. Farley sang several solos. Mrs A. Johnson called on Mr N. McLeod, in the absence of Mr J. F. Wallis (who is in hospital) to present Mr Meston with a fountain pen and pencil. Mr McLeod expressed regret that Mr Meston's stay among them had been so short. The splendid work which Mr Meston had carried out was much appreciated. In reply, Mr Meston said that he had come to them a perfect stranger, but felt he was leaving many friends behind. The kindness shown to him would be long remembered. The Guild members supplied the supper, and a vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs Johnson for arranging the gathering at such short notice. Mr Meston will leave for Napier on Monday. Soldiers’ Club Room. The Mayoress, Mrs A. W. Horton, presided over a large gathering of ladies last evening, when complete arrangements were made fox’ the supervision and control of the Soldiers’ Club Room, which has been established in the Fire Brigade Flail.
