4 BOWLING PROGRESSIVE PAIRS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Further games in the Carterton Bowling Club's progressive pairs competition have been played as follows:— Pankhurst and Hughan (s) beat Irwin and A. Thompson (s), 28/19; Kilmister and Sorensen (s) beat Billington and Callender (s), 20/I'9; Irvin and Callender (s) beat Newbould and Harrington (s) 26/15; Pankhurst and Sorensen (s) beat Beaven and Hughan (s) 33/20. Despite the unseasonable weather yesterday a very enjoyable progressive pairs tournament was played on the Carterton green, twenty players taking part. Afternoon tea was presided over by Mrs Billington and Miss Colson to whom a vote of thanks was accorded. The winner of the skips section was Gordon Hughan, who went through the tournament without a loss, winning all five games played. L. Curtis -was runner-up with 4 wins and a loss, being beaten in his first game by Hughan by one point. The winning lead was E. Clarke (4 wins and one loss), Billington being second, beating Daysh on points. • On Saturday the champion rink games will be continued. St. Mary’s Soldiers’ Club. St. Mary's Hall near the Catholic Church, South Carterton, has been turned into a soldiers’ Club. A strong ladies’ committee controls the club and every effort is to be made to entertain soldiers in a suitable manner. “Red Shield” Recreation Room. i The Salvation AYmy officers in charge of the Carterton Corps have established a rest and recreation room for soldiers. The room is fitted out with chairs, tables, gramophone and other conveniences, and the facilities provided are greatly appreciated by soldiers who have made use of the room. Black Out Last Night. Carterton last evening presented a “black out” appearance. No street lights were burning, but there is room for improvement in regard to the black out of private residences. Long Bicycle Ride. Three Carterton District High School boys, Alan Simmonds, R. Andrews and Lyon Fitzgerald, returned home on Wednesday after a cycle tour to New Plymouth via the Bush, the Manawatu Gorge, Palmerston North, Feilding and Wanganui, returning by way of Taranaki and Wanganui towns. Shannon, Levin, Otaki and the Rimutaka Hill, 'camping out en route. They had a most enjoyable experiencefl Personal Items.; Mrs T. Sage, Lower Hutt, is visiting Carterton and is staying with Mrs Sage’s mother in Tyne Street. Mr and Mrs Wicks, of Dannevirke, are visitors to Carterton and are staying with Mrs Wicks’s father, Mr H. Oates, Pembroke Street. Bey Scouts’ Card Party. The weekly card party of the Carterton Boy Scouts was held on Wednesday evening. There was a good attendance, and the prizes were won as follows: —Ladies, Mrs J. Lenihan 1, Mrs C. Holland 2. Men: Mr F. Jackson, junr., 1, C. Holland 2. REGENT THEATRE TONIGHT'S PROGRAMME. Another exciting adventure will be shown tonight in “Doomed Caravan,” with William Boyd and Russell Hayden in the leading roles. (Approved for Universal Exhibition.) Also shown will be “Inside Information,” starring Dick Foran and June Lang. (Recommended by Censor for Adults.)
