S.M. COURT MONTHLY SITTING. . (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly sitting of the Carterton Magistrate's Court was held yesterday and was presided over by Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M. In the following civil cases judgment was given for plaintiffs: Tatton Bros. Ltd. v A. W. Bradbury, claim £l9 Is 9d: C. K. Goodin v Brian Feast, claim £6 15s; A, N. Tait v A. Whyte, £4 3s 9d. A. W. Herrick was ordered to pay W. Vaughan £9 Ils 4d forthwith in default nine days’ imprisonment in Wellington gaol. Robert James Greeks and Albert G. Saunders were charged by the police with having drink in their possession in the vicinity of the King's Theatre, when a dance was in progress on January 10. Accused were each fined £3 with costs 10s.

Thomas M. Carroll was charged by the police that on January 3, being a prohibited person, he obtained liquor during the currency of the order, and was found on licensed premises. He was fined £2, with 12s costs, on the first charge and 10s, with 10s costs; on the second count. Ronald J. Brown was charged by the police with having ridden a bicycle without lights after dark. He was fined £1 10s with costs 10s. Colin Charles Carruthers, being a Reservist belonging to Class A of the First Division of the General Reserve, was proceeded against by the police for having failed to enrol under Regulation 43 of the National Service Emergency, 1940. Accused was fined £1 with costs 10s. He was given 14 days in which to enlist in the Air Force. Showers at Carterton Baths. It has been decided by the Carterton Borough Council to instal new pipes to the dressing shed at the Carterton Baths. This was found necessary in order to get a full flow of water for six showers. Bowling. In a championship pairs game played last evening Messrs Reg. Thompson 1 and F. Harrington (s) defeated Messrs L. Aplin and G. W. Hart (s), 25/11. Messrs Daysh and McCarty (s) beat Clark and Kilmister (s) for the DeLacey Buttons, 22/17. Personal Items. Misses Pat Goodin and Beryl Goodin, of South Carterton, are visiting Wellington. On Tuesday afternoon lady members of the Carterton Labour League paid a surprise visit to the home of Mrs S. Green, a member of the League, when the opportunity was taken to bid her goodbye as she would leave next week with her husband to take up her residence in Levin. The time was spent in competitions. Mrs W. H. Hall said how sorry members of the League were to loose the services of Mrs 1 Green, and on behalf of those present asked her to accept a supper set, at the same time wishing Mr and Mrs Green a happy time in their new place of residence. Mrs Green suitably replied. Afternoon tea was provided and an enjoyable time ended with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” REGENT THEATRE TONIGHT’S PROGRAMME. Alexander’ Korda’s masterpiece, “Lady Hamilton,” will be screened tonight. The brilliant actress, Vivien Leigh, and Lawrence Olivier will have the leading roles.
