Macalister, has resigned from the position of chief controller and as member of the E.P.S. executive. The resignation, which has been forwarded to the secretary of the Invercargill E.P.S., is the result of the adoption of the following resolution at a meeting of the Invercargill City Council last night: —“That the Minister of National Service be advised that it is the opinion of the Invercargill City Council that as the cost of he E.P.S. must be met by ratepayers, too much control of the organisation is vested in persons other than councillors.” It is understood that Mr Macalister’s resignation will be considered at a meeting of controllers and deputy-controllers this morning. , Wellington Bread Supply. Wellington housewives are adapting themselves to the changed situation caused by the stoppage of bread deliveries and the new scheme is working satisfactorily according to information given by Wellington grocers yesterday. The profit on each loaf is Jd. The handling of the bread has thrown a great deal of extra work on the staffs of grocery shops, more particularly in the suburbs where the residents had formerly been spoon-fed with bread deliveries. One shop which usually sold between 50 and 60 loaves on a Saturday morning now dealt with up to 300. The handling of all this bread with depleted staffs represented a real problem, but in one or two cases extra Igirls were employed on Saturday mornings.
