TYPHUS EPIDEMIC

PRECAUTIONS IN THE MIDDLE EAST. MEASURES TO PROTECT TROOPS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, January 20. Protective methods to protect the Allied troops in the Middle East in view of the typhus epidemic which “has assumed dangerous proportions in Eastern Europe and made its appearance in Spain,” are receiving careful consideration in London. The Under-Secretary to the War Office. Sir Edward Grigg, said in the House of Commons that special measures had been taken to protect the troops against the spread of the typhus epidemic outside Europe. Measures had already been taken to supply vaccine and set up laboratories in the Middle East. The War Office, it is understood, has been in touch with the Russian authorities, who have vast knowledge and experience of the problem.
