Parliament to Meet in February.
An announcement that Parliament would reassemble on Thursday, February 5, was made on Saturday by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser. This is the date to which the adjournment was taken, and Mr Fraser said members would not be asked to meet earlier unless the war situation became worse.
Donations Acknowledged. Donations of musical instruments for the use of Territorials have been received by the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, from the following: Mr and Mrs Moss, gramophone and records and books; Dr. H. Frohlich, gramophone and records; Mr Alex Young, battery wireless set. Mr Jordan acknowledges the donations with thanks.
Collection of Ergot. Many people searching for ergot have been disappointed at the very srqall amount they have so far been able' to collect. It is pointed out that the later seeding fescue promises to produce a much higher incidence of ergot than the earlier seeding heads. An inspection of the riverside area from the Waipoua to the Ruamahanga showed that the later heads would be much more profitable.
Reduced Lighting Regulations. A warning that offenders against the reduced lighting regulations would be reported to the local lighting controller for prosecution was given by the mayor of Wellington, Mr T. C. A. Hislop, interviewed yesterday in his capacity of chief warden of the Wellington E.P.S., about the manner in which the regulations were being observed. Complaints had been received about non-observ-ance by certain State departments and in buildngs taken over by the Army Department, said Mr Hislop. If these departments, against whom summonses would shortly be issued, were found to be in the privileged position of not being bound by the regulations, he would ask for an immediate regulation to bring them into line. If that was not done, the wardens would be withdrawn from the work of enforcing the regulations.
