PREMIER OF BURMA
DETAINED BY THE BRITISH AUTHORITIES NOT TO BE ALLOWED TO RETURN HOME. CONTACT WITH JAPANESE ADMITTED. (British Official Wireless.) LONDON, January 18. The Prime Minister of Burma, U. Saw, has been detained by the British authorities, and is not to be allowed to return to Burma. Reports received here as to his movements after his goodwill visit to this country indicate that he has been in contact with the Japanese authorities since the outbreak of war with Japan. This he has confirmed on his own admission. U. Saw arrived in Britain last October and discussed with Mr Churchill the future status of Burma. He said he was very disappointed and dissatisfied, and set out for home, intending to visit New Zealand and Australia. He was in Honolulu when the war with Japan broke out.
