POWERFUL ATTACKS

BY R.A.F. FIGHTERS & BOMBERS. ON ENEMY TRANSPORT & SHIPS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, January 17. Today’s Singapore communique states that fighter and bomber aircraft of the Far East Command yesterday carried out attacks on a enemy transport on the Gemas-Tampin Road, and destroyed a large number of vehicles and damaged others. Fighter aircraft delivered a successful attack on launches and barges laden with troops near the mouth of the Muar River. One launch blew up, and heavy casualties were inflicted on personnel in the barges. This morning aircraft attacked enemy shipping off Malacca. Bombs were dropped on one vessel, which was seen enveloped in spray, and another was heavily machine-gunned. Severe damage was inflicted on a large concentration of small craft.

Transport vehicles between Tanjongkling and Malacca were shot up by our fighters.
