BOROUGH AFFAIRS
0 FEATHERSTON COUNCIL BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. POWER BOARD REPRESENTATIVE APPOINTED. (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Featherston Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers, on Thursday night last, when the following were present: The Mayor, Mr J. W. Card, Councillors S. P. Batchelor, G. A. Farrier, W. J. Boston, C. R. Skipage, C. C. Kenward, R. R. P. Hardy, H. W. Cundy and T. G. Hardie. An apology for absence was received from Councillor B. B. Donald. The treasurer reported as follows: — District Fund a/c, cr £-831 14s 4d; Cemetery a/c, cr., £92 9s 4d; Domain a/c, cr., £2l Is 9d; Mayor’s .Relief Fund a/c, cr.. £75 14s 9d; Water Supply Loan, 1936, a/c, cr., £27 16s 3d; Library a/c, cr., £25 13s Bd. A sample of the borough water was reported by the Dominion laboratory to be of good quality. The Wairarapa Power Board wrote advising that Mr M. B. Tait had resigned from the Board. He had represented the Featherston Borough. The Council appointed Mr N. C. C. Shepherd to take his place. The Health Inspector stated that the general health of the Borough was very good. The Department of Internal Affairs wrote stating that the time for re-re-gistering dogs had been extended to March 1. 1942. The Wairarapa Electric Power Board wrote stating that Mr G. Brown, Sec-retary-Manager, had been appointed Lighting Controller for the district in place of Mr H. B. Keenan, who, owing to ill health, was unable to act. A letter wak received from the Featherston Fire Brigade, thanking the Council for its grant of £3O. It was decided that the Town Hall be let to the Patriotic Society each week-end for the purpose of entertaining soldiers.
