WEDDING

BARR—SMITH |

The marriage took place on December 30 at St Matthew’s Church, Masterton, of Eileen Joan, second daughter of Mr and Mrs A. P. Smith, Masterton, to George Arthur, only son of Mr and Mrs G. W. Barr. The Ven Archdeacon E. J. Rich officiated. The bride, who was escorted by her father, looked charming in a frock of silver sheen satin, cut on classical lines. She carried a sheaf of Madonna lilies and gypsophila. Her tulle veil was held in place by gardinias. The bridesmaids, Miss Edna Smith (chief) and Miss Mavis Whiteman, wore frocks of peach bloom georgette over satin. The frocks had high necklines and the skirts were fully gathered from the waists. They wore a spray of peach and heavenly-blue flowers in their hair. The bouquets they carried were of pink carnations, gladioli, heavenly-blue delphiniums and maiden-hair fern. The duties of best man and groomsman were capably carried out by Messrs lan Bennington and Lionel Taylor, respectively. The bride before leaving for the church was presented with a silver horseshoe by her little niece, Patricia Mulvey. The church was beautifully decorated by friends of the bride in blue hydrangeas. Mr Miller Hope presided at the organ. During the signing of the register, Mr W. Mann rendered a solo. “I’ll Walk Beside You.”

At the reception the bride’s mother dressed in a navy blue ensemble, and the bridegroom’s mother, attired in a frock of Indian Penny, received the guests. The usual toasts were honoured. The wedding cake was made and donated by Mr and Mrs C. Braggins, of Dannevirke.

When Mr and Mrs Barr left on their honeymoon, the bride wore a twopiece frock of navy blue with navy accessories.
