CARTERTON

BOWLING COLTS’ COMPETITION. (“Times-Age” Special.) A game in the Colts’ competition was played on the Carterton green last evening when R. Daysh defeated H. Colson by a fair margin of points. A challenge for the Kelly colts’ cup, which is held by the Carterton Club, has been received from the Park Club. The game may be played on Saturday. Personal Items. The Salvation Army Hall was well filled last evening when the newlyappointed local Salvation Army officers, Adjutant A. Packer, of Te Awamutu, and Lieut. Laura Dutton, of Wellington Training College, were accorded a warm welcome. An excellent musical programme was provided. A Busy Scene. Yesterday afternoon the Carterton railway station bore a very busy appearance between 2 and 3 o’clock. Three goods trains and the WoodvilleWellington express arrived, the latter running 45 minutes late.

Dance at King’s Theatre.

Tomorrow evening a dance will be held in the King's Theatre, Carterton. The dance music will be provided by Mrs V. J. Ashton's orchestra. Novelty competitions will be held and a good supper provided. RUN OVER BY HAY SWEEP DALEFIELD FARMER INJURED.

Yesterday Mr Robert Bassett, of Dalefield, was driving a hay sweep in the course of harvesting operations, when a bolt of the seat gave way throwing him beneath the machine, which went over him. He received a bad shaking and slight injury to his back. He was attended by Dr. Wells. As a result of the accident Mr Bassett will be confined to his bed for a few days. White Butterflies in Evidence. The hot weather soon brings the white butterfly, and in this morning’s warm sunshine there were hundreds on the wing. Cabbages will, doubtless, now receive their attention. State Schools. It is announced by the secretary of the Education Board that the state primary schools will re-open on Monday, February 2.

Reported Missing.

Mrs Rex Walker, of Kent Street, Carterton, last evening received a message that her husband, Pte. Rex Walker, had been posted as missing, believed prisoner of war, in connection with the Battle of Libya.

REGENT THEATRE TONIGHT'S PROGRAMME.

The double feature programme to be screened tonight will be “Rangers of Fortune,” with Fred Mac Murray and Albert Kekker in the leading roles. (Approved for Universal Exhibition), and “Personal Secretary,” staring William Gargan, and which is recommended by the Censor for adults.
