NAVY LEAGUE
LADIES’ AUXILIARY APPEAL FOR CLOTHING. SCHOOL MEMBERSHIP PENNANT. A well-attended meeting of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Navy League was held yesterday, Mrs S. R. Gawith presiding. A letter was received from the Rev. B. J. Williams, Port Chaplain of the Missions to Seamen, asking if the Navy League could collect clothing for seamen who had suffered loss from enemy action. It was decided to make an appeal through the press for clothing to be sent to the mission. It was de-, cided to make a donation of money to be spent by the Mission er on garments most urgently needed. Such garments as suits, shirts, vests, boots, etc., will be gratefully received and may be left at the A. and P. Association’s Office, Perry St. It was decided to discontinue collecting and packing food for minesweepers overseas for the present, clothing being needed much more urgently than food. The committee wish to thank all those who have given donations of tinned foods each month, and hope that, until it is possible to send further supplies of goods, they would be willing to assist in providing a greater number of woollen goods.
Advice was received that in future if schools that had gained their Union Jacks maintain their 100 per cent membership they will be given a pennant to hoist below their flag the first year and a star for each succeeding year until they have the Southern Cross on their pennant. The schools that are entitled'to a pennant on their 1941 membership are: Solway College, St. Matthew's School, Hadlow Preparatory School, Newman, Kopuaranga and Putara.i
