ALFREDTON

PATRIOTIC SOCIETY SUCCESSFUL EUCHRE PARTY. ("Times-Age” Special.) There was a very large attendance at /the euchre party conducted by the Patriotic Society on Saturday evening. The winners in the games were:— Ladies: Mrs L. Cooper. Men: Messrs C. Hartley, Gorden and T. Smith (equal). Opportunity was taken to make a presentation to Mr and Mrs Walter Rolls, who are leaving the district. Mr and Mrs Rolls have resided in Alfredton for about forty years. Mr Rolls was a keen cricketer and took a leading part in all sport in the district. Mr A. Weston, on behalf of the residents, presented Mr and Mrs Rolls with a beautiful chiming clock and wishe'd them the best of luck in their new home.

Mrs Hull, on behalf of the Alfredton Women’s Institute, presented Mrs Rolls with a dainty crystal vase and a bouquet. The speaker said that Mrs Rolls had always been a keen Institute worker. Eoth Mr and Mrs Rolls suitably replied. A presentation was also made to Able Seaman L. Ross, he being the first naval seaman to leave the district . Mr R. Kebbell, on behalf of the residents presented Able Seaman .L. Ross with a wristlet watch wishing him a safe return. Mr and Mrs Rolls and Able Seaman Ross were accorded musical honours. Mrs G. Houlbrooke supplied the music for dancing. The ladies of the district provided a dainty supper.

Personal Items. Mrs Hall has returned home after spending an extended holiday with her brother in Pongaroa. Miss Betty Edmonds has left to take up a position in Palmerston North. Miss W. Smith, of Wellington, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs T. Smith. Mrs Hutchings, of Eketahuna, spent the weekend with Mrs V. Payne. Mrs H. Burch is the guest of Mrs Hansen, of Lower Hutt. Mrs S. Edmonds has returned nome after visiting Waipukurau. Mr and Mrs Rolls left today for the new home at Mamaku.
