FIRMER STAND
AGAINST JAPANESE IN MALAYA
AS ENEMY APPROACHES SINGAPORE. TOKIO NEWSPAPER REPORT. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day,. 11.55 a.m.) LONDON, January 13. The “Asahi Shimbun’s” war correspondent is quoted by the Vichy news agency as saying that British resistance in Malaya is increasing as the Japanese approach Singapore. ,
In the past few weeks a majority of the Indian and Malayan troops have been withdrawn to the rear. The Allied artillery is more active and entrenched in better fortified positions. Tire Allied equipment has improved, indicating a great effort to slow down the Japanese advance. Allied destruction methods are also better, causing Japanese rehabilitation to take longer. Allied land-mines laid in strategic zones on the roads have greatly increased in number.
