VIOLENT ATTACK

LAUNCHED BY CHINESE AGAINST HONAN CITIES. ENEMY FORCE OF 8,000 MEN WIPED OUT. (Received This Day, 10.50 a.m.) CHUNGKING, January 13. The Chinese have launched a violent attack against the Japanese-held cities of Hwaiyang, Taiking, Chicheng and Luyi, in the Honan Province. The first push wiped out several hundred Japanese north of Hwaiyang and a further one repulsed Japanese forces at Anhwei.

The Chinese intercepted and wiped out 8,000 men of a Japanese column hastening from Yochow to the Milo River with a view to relieving their trapped comrades. Many of the Japanese soldiers were wearing typical fur coats and fur caps, indicating that they had been withdrawn from Manchukuo.
