FAR EAST OFFICIALS
DENOUNCED IN LONDON “CROP OF INCOMPETENT WINDBAGS.” DRASTIC ACTION URGED. LONDON, January 12. The “Daily Express” in a leader says: “Britons who were assured that all Malaya could be defended are humiliated by the tremendous sacrifices our outnumbered forces are making in a delaying action while planes are rushed out. It daily becomes clearer that the Far East has produced a crop of incompetent windbags. Those who wanted to speak out about mismanagement were gagged, censored and obstructed. Time is too short for the ordinary methods of truth-telling publicity to relieve the situation. If General Wavell sees fit to take drastic measures against slothful ofticialdom he will have the thanks of the whole alliance.”
