One of the German fighters destroyed during the day by a patrol of R.A.F. fighters off Northern France dived into the sea on being attacked. It was one of four fighters which followed two aircraft of the American Eagle squadron out over the coast after they had made a patrol over France. The four Germans got on the tails of the Americans. When they were only a few feet above the waves, one American turned and attacked three of the enemy, who had picked him out'. When one of the enemy was turning to get out of the way, a wing-tip of his aircraft hit the water. A second German was attacked by the other American pilot and crashed into the sea. The two remaining German aircraft turned and flew rapidly back to France.
